Philippine Forest Certification System

Philippines is among the 10 most threatened forest hotspots in the world. This is reflected to the current state of the industry where policy traps restrict its growth compounded by competitive global market. Such status posits the need for a market-based tool to tie up conservation and economic development of the forest industry. The Philippine Forest Certification System (PFCS) aims to establish the Sustainable Forest Management and Chain of Custody standards in the Philippines to revitalize the local forest industry adhering to the sustainability pillars. Oversighted by the Interim National Governing Body, the group is chaired by the Society of Filipino Foresters, Inc (SFFI) co-chaired by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Forest Management Bureau (DENR-FMB) where Philippine Center for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development, Inc. (PCEPSDI) acts as the secretariat.
