Why Ecolabelling?
-
Environmental Protection
Ecolabelling helps safeguard the environment by recognizing products and services that meet specific environmental standards. Through certification of environmentally-preferable products, ecolabeling programmes and practice promotes the adoption of sustainable production practices and minimizes the waste production along with pollution.
-
Consumer Empowerment
Ecolabels provide consumers with valuable information about the environmental impact of products and services. By adopting the use of ecolabels, manufacturers show their commitment to sustainability and also allow the consumers to make choices that are more aligned with sustainability practices and environmental preferences.
-
Market Transformation
Ecolabeling also influences market trends by transforming and creating new trends by creating demands for sustainable products and services. When more consumers choose to buy eco-labeled products, it encourages manufacturers to improve and adapt to practices that support sustainability–leading to a greener market.
-
Transparency & Credibility
Ecolabeling programs establish clear criteria and standards for environmental performance, ensuring transparency and credibility. Ecolabeling programs are also considered as an independent, third party actor, ensuring a non-biased certification process.
-
Global Harmonization
Ecolabeling programmes follow international standards and guidelines, promoting harmonization and consistency on an international level. This also facilitates trade and enables consumers to make sustainable choices regardless of their location.
-
Sustainable Development
Ecolabeling supports the principles of sustainable development by promoting the efficient use of resources–reducing environmental impacts of manufacturing products, while considering social and economic factors. It also contributes to the achievement of global sustainability goals, such as the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
