The Sustainable Diner: A Key Ingredient for Sustainable Tourism

Project Title: Establish Low Carbon Consumption and Production in Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines ("SCP TIP")

The ‘Sustainable Diner: A Key Ingredient for Sustainable Tourism’ project in the Philippines, led by the World Wide Fund for Nature- Philippines (WWF-PH) in collaboration with the Philippine Center for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development Inc., receives funding from the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety via its International Climate Initiative (IKI).

This 3-year initiative aims to: 1) raise awareness across multiple sectors about the environmental impacts of the food industry and promote sustainable practices; 2) expand options for healthy and eco-friendly dining; 3) devise strategies for reducing food and dining waste; and 4) mitigate greenhouse gas emissions in the food service sector. Achieving these goals requires cooperation with both national and local government agencies, as well as active participation from food services and the dining public.

The collaboration and coordination activities for the Sustainable Diner project include:

  1. Roundtable Discussions
  2. Policy Dialogues
  3. Carbon Footprinting
  4. Life Cycle Assessment
  5. National Eco-Labelling Program Criteria Review
  6. Cost Benefit Analysis
  7. Focus Group Discussions
  8. Capacity building activities
  9. Information education campaigns

As a project partner, PCEPSDI’s key technical milestones include: 1) formulating policy recommendations and action guidelines, particularly for the food service sector within tourism, and 2) aiding in the creation of policy tools, medium-term sectoral development plans, and related guidelines.
