NELP-GCP seeks partnership with UNIDO for GP3 confab and cleaner production

Recognizing the active role of United Nation Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in promoting cleaner production and green energy in the country, the Philippine Center for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development, Inc (PCEPSDI) Executive Director June Alvarez, met last May 20 with UNIDO Country Representative Dr. Suresh Chandra Raj at the UNIDO office, Makati City and discussed about the upcoming 3rd Green Productivity, Green Purchasing towards Green Philippines (GP3) Conference. The slated conference will be held at the SMX Convention Center on August 17-19,2011.
In the meeting, Mr. Raj disclosed the strong interest of the Vienna-based UNIDO Director General and Chairman of Energy, Dr. Kandeh Yumkella to speak in the conference and discuss about UNIDO's program on cleaner production.
Mr. Alvarez then invited Mr. Raj to be part of the confab's Convenors' Committee that will act as an advisory group on the requirements and activities for the GP3 conference. "Not only will GP3 [conference] be a venue to promote UNIDO's environmental but it will also be means to gather support towards the sustainability of the environment through cleaner production.", Mr. Alvarez said.
Mr. Raj is also expected to be a resource speaker as well for the conference.
Apart from participating in the GP3 conference, Mr. Alvarez also stressed the possible joint venture of UNIDO and PCEPSDI in the the ECO-PERFORM project which is a certification scheme that aims to green the supply chain of industries. Mr. Raj then said that UNIDO is interested in programs that push for cleaner production for which they might probably consider Mr. Alvarez' proposal.
The GP3 conference is one of the country's biggest environmental awareness campaigns on sustainable consumption and production that gathers top business professionals, CEOs, government leaders and policy makers, and environmental advocates discussing the latest trends, strategies and approaches on various green business concerns. This year, the conference will level up to tackle the country's path towards Green Economy and will be held at the SMX Convention Center, SM Mall of Asia Complex, coinciding with the 1st Green Philippines Total Green Movement International Exhibition and Conference. GP3 Conference is in partnership with the DTI and DENR, supported by the Global Ecolabelling Network (GEN), International Green Purchasing Network (IGPN), the European Union Delegation to the Philippines and the Management Association of the Philippines.
