The Philippine Green Building Council (PHILGBC), the largest Green Building movement in the country that promotes environmental performance leadership in the built sector has partnered with the administrator of the National Ecolabeling Programme (NELP) -PCEPSDI- to come up with criteria guidelines on Green Building construction materials. This will be used for PHILGBC's Building for Ecologically Responsive Design Excellence (BERDE) rating system program.

The BERDE Program is PHILGBC's answer to the demand of the built industry sector in addressing the need for tools that shall measure a green building project's sustainability credentials. BERDE shall be the nationally recognized and industry accepted rating system that shall gauge the building's environmental impact and performance throughout its life cycle. It will be used as a vehicle for local policy implementation and incentives, as well as train professionals the principles of Green Building.

As Team Leader of the Technical Committee on Materials for the development of the BERDE Rating System, PCEPSDI will develop criteria guidelines on the usage and correlated effects of construction materials from the extensive network of extraction, processing and transportation steps required to process these materials. The guidelines to be developed must also cover the efficient use of building materials as well as its corresponding effects to the air, water, natural habitats and resources.

PCEPSDI will conduct consultation meetings with various stakeholders (e.g. building professionals, developers, property managers, materials suppliers, national government agencies, academe, local government units, business and finance groups) in the course of the development of construction materials guidelines.
